A Lancaster County mother and 14-year old daughter were involved in a very serious tractor-trailer accident near their home. The family retained an attorney who tried to settle the case by demanding the sum of $800,000. He advised the family to compromise and accept an even lesser amount if it was offered. Surprisingly, the tractor trailer’s insurance company was not willing to make a settlement offer and, instead, prepared its defense. The family’s first attorney referred the case to Liss & Marion in anticipation of litigation.
Liss & Marion immediately reviewed the case in greater detail and prepared it for trial. The insurance company reconsidered its position and initiated serious settlement negotiations. The family wanted to settle the case in order to avoid an emotional trial. After weeks of negotiations, Liss & Marion was successful in obtaining a settlement offer totaling approximately 1.5 million dollars, nearly doubling the first attorney’s demand for settlement. The family was both relieved and happy to settle the case.
